2011Leopard Sunrise

Last week’s Masai Mara trip may not have yielded my hoped for black cloud and rain – it was meant to be the short rains there – but more than made up for it with six encounters with three leopards and one cub, which is the most I’ve experienced in one visit there.
I’d like to say it’s good to be home again, but I’ll be honest and say I’d rather still be out there. Oh well, August, my next trip, is only four months away.
Taken using a Nikon D3s with 200-400 zoom lens at 270mm, f/5.6, 1/500th, and ISO 400.

Hi David,
Found you on 500px.com and boy am I glad I did. What a wonderful sight this is and so are various other photographs you have taken in wild. I would assume you are able to sell your work to make a living. It would be great to hear your experiences about that as well. Meanwhile if work ever brings you to India to shoot the most majestic of cats – the bengal tiger, it would be my pleasure to see you. Meanwhile greetings from the land of Tigers.
cheers.

Awesome image. I love the lighting, and how the leopards eye is in the light but the lower body is in the shade. Great work!

Beautiful photo! Like the lighting and position of the shadow… very original.
So many leopards! Amazing luck!

You already know what I think of this one :D Fantastic light, with the shadow in perfect position just below the eye to draw your attention to it. And what a stare! Glad to see you are enjoying the D3s.
